The battle of the long island is also known as the battle of brooklyn. It started in August 27,1776 and took place in brooklyn. It was important because it enable the british to capture the strategically crucial port and city of NewYork. The side who won was the british. Sir William Howe was the british side and General George Washington, was the American side.
